07 Mar 2023

The UNDP reports that the damage caused in Turkey by the recent earthquake will exceed $100 billion. The earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on Feb. 6 resulted in the loss of over 52,000 lives, with many being crushed or buried in their sleep.

Louisa Vinton from UNDP described the scenes in Turkey’s worst-hit Hatay province as “apocalyptic,” with hundreds of thousands of homes destroyed. The needs are vast, and resources are scarce.
