Joe Biden asks Congress for new funding for Ukraine

17 Nov 2022

President Joe Biden’s administration is asking Congress for an additional $37.7 billion to support Ukraine in its war with Russia and $9.25 billion to fight COVID-19 as part of a request for additional funding, White House officials said Tuesday.

The administration has also requested $750 million to fight other infectious diseases and will seek additional funds for disaster relief, the sources said.Congress has an opportunity and a commitment to meet three additional and critical funding needs that must earn bipartisan support: protecting the American people from COVID-19 and saving lives around the world; supporting the people of Ukraine; and helping communities across the country recover from devastating natural disasters, White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Shalanda Young noted in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

White House officials said the administration will focus on funding the government and the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as confirming judges whose terms expire before the end of the year.
