Armenian Churches Being Destroyed in Artsakh

The Azerbaijani government erases Armenian inscriptions from churches in areas in Artsakh occupied by Baku as a result of the 2020 war.

Azerbaijan’s Culture Minister Anar Kerimov claims that these churches were built by Caucasian Albania, an ancient kingdom that covered much of modern-day Azerbaijan’s territory. That’s why he has set up a working group tasked with removing “false” Armenian traces from these churches.

Vahan Hunanian, the Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman, has called for an “immediate intervention” by UNESCO in connection with these acts of vandalism.
