Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev has stated that the process of opening communications with Armenia has “partially begun,” RIA Novosti reported.
Aliyev received the newly appointed Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan, Peter Michalko, in Baku on Wednesday. The President of Azerbaijan stated that his country wants to turn the page and improve relations with its neighbor Armenia.
“We are ready to start negotiations on a peace agreement, [border] delimitation, opening of communications; this process has partially begun. But I believe that if the European Union actively participates—I see that there is such a desire—, it can help us in many areas. In general, the situation in the South Caucasus may reach a completely new scale, which has not been the case for 30 years. It can also be a very important factor for stability, predictability, and peace,” Aliyev said, his press service reported.
